Day 1 Preview (6/3)

The day has finally arrived. Tonight, at 9:30 PM (ET), the highly anticipated Copa America Centenario will finally begin. This cup marks the 100-year anniversary of the inception of the Copa America and the CONMEBOL soccer association of South America. However, this cup is unique because it will include not only South American nations, but also North American, Central American, and Carribean Nations, making it a true Copa of all America.

The cup kicks off with one match tonight. At 9:30 PM (ET), the host nation USA will face off against Colombia, one of the strongest teams in the world and quarterfinalists in the 2014 World Cup. The USA are the weaker team in this matchup, but they have the immense advantage of playing all their matches at home, with almost every fan in each stadium cheering them on. This is the main reason why tonight, I believe that the United States can win.

Colombia has an extremely strong lineup, marked by a fantastic midfield including the likes of James Rodriguez and Juan Cuadrado. However, the USA have a very strong defense. In the USA's last 6 matches, they have only conceded 1 goal. I believe that the combination of the USA's strong defense and the loud fans in Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara will make it very difficult for Colombia to score. The USA will likely win in a low-scoring game.

Prediction: USA wins 1-0
