Matches- Group C
Jamaica v Venezuela
Mexico v Uruguay
Jamaica v Venezuela
Neither of these two teams have a realistic chance of advancing to the knockout stage. Rather Mexico and Uruguay will finish at the top of Group C, and both of these squads will be sent home. However, much like the match between Peru and Haiti, both teams are trying to pick up points so they can perhaps slide into second place if they manage to score an upset over either Mexico or Uruguay. Jamaica had an absolutely dismal showing at the Copa last year. They lost all three of their matches in the group stage, and did not even score a single goal in the process. While Venezuela did perform better, they still did not finish in the top 2 of their Copa group last year, and likewise went home early. Venezuela is a better team, although not by much, so I expect them to win this match.
Prediction: Venezuela wins 3-1
Mexico v Uruguay
This matchup is primarily to determine seeds going into the knockout round. Most likely, both teams will advance. Uruguay have played well enough recently, as they are at the top of the table for the CONMEBOL World Cup Qualification. However, they will be without their best player, Luis Suarez, who picked up an injury while playing for Barcelona in the Copa Del Rey Final. Suarez scored the most goals in all of Europe this past season, and losing him is a major blow to Uruguay. While the next best forward, Edinson Cavani, is a good player, he did not play as much for his club, PSG, as he had in the past, as he only started in 24 out of 38 matches in the Ligue 1 season. Mexico, on the other hand, is red hot. Mexico won the CONCACAF Gold Cup last year, and hasn't lost a single match since last June, meaning the team has gone 19 matches in a row without a loss. I believe that Mexico can continue the streak, especially because Uruguay is without Suarez, and pick up the win in this match.
Prediction: Mexico wins 2-0
