Day 9 Summary (6/11)

Results- Group A
USA def. Paraguay 1-0
Costa Rica def. Colombia 3-2

USA v Paraguay
The States came to play once again. It's clear that they learned from the 2-0 loss to Colombia, and have not allowed a single goal in the last two matches, winning both matches by a combined score of 5-0. This win combined with Colombia's loss means that the USA win Group A and will face off against the second place team of Group B (presumably Ecuador) in the quarterfinals. As for Paraguay, they are going home after a disappointing run, taking 1 point from 3 matches and finishing at the bottom of the table.

Costa Rica v Colombia
Costa Rica shocked the world in 2014. They did it again here. They were already eliminated, at the bottom of the table. Colombia was at the top, and showed no signs of slowing down. But they did not play their strongest team. So Costa Rica powered ahead to a 2-1 lead at the half. Colombia brought in James Rodriguez and Edwin Cardona, but Costa Rica had too much momentum. In the 58th minute, Costa Rica doubled their lead and went ahead 3-1. Colombia brought Juan Cuadrado onto the pitch, and scored in the 73rd minute. But Costa Rica held on and got a 3-2 win. Thus Colombia dropped to 2nd in the group behind the USA, and Costa Rica exits the tournament on a high note.
