Results- Group B
Ecuador def. Haiti 4-0
Peru def. Brazil 1-0
Ecuador v Haiti
Ecuador came out to play with the cup on the line. They asserted their dominance in a 4-0 rout over Haiti, clinching second place in the group and a match against the USA in the knockout rounds. They will be happy to have gone the entire group stage without a loss, although perhaps they may feel as if they deserved the group title as they probably should have beaten Peru. Although maybe it helped them to come second, as they face the USA instead of Colombia, who fell to second in Group A. As for Haiti, the cup was a disappointment. They lost all 3 matches, and only scored one goal, while allowing 12. Hopefully for Haitian fans, they can put this behind them as they focus on qualification for the World Cup.
Peru v Brazil
Brazil deserved the win. In stats, Brazil dominated the Peruvians. They out-possessed them 66-34, they outshot them 14-4, and out passed them 503-236(!!!!). But they couldn't find the back of the net. Peru did. But the goal should not have counted, as Raul Ruidiaz clearly handballed the ball before scoring. But the referee did not see it, and Peru somehow won. This is yet another disappointing cup for Brazil. This was supposed to be a weak group, but Brazil failed to even advance. Although they did not bring their stars, they should have performed better given the talent they have. Brazil needs to change something in order to become the dynasty they once were. As for Peru, their cinderella story continues. They won the group, but they have to face Colombia, who will likely send them home in the quarterfinals.
